Microneedling Magic: Exploring the Benefits for Flawless Skin
If you could turn back time, what would you do differently with your skin? Would you spend less time in the sun? Would you wear sunscreen? Would you skip the tanning bed? Would you drink more water to keep your skin hydrated?
We could go through an entire list of “woulds,” but then we’d be here all day.
While you can’t turn back time and correct all questionable—or outright bad—skincare choices from your youth, you can do something now to reverse the effect of bad habits and the environment. Spa services like hydrafacial, dermaplaning, and classic facials rejuvenate and hydrate the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation.
But if you want to repair skin even more, microneedling might be the fountain of youth you’ve been searching for.
In this post, you’ll learn more about the benefits of microneedling, who makes the best candidates for the service, its cost, and view before and after photos from actual clients of The Color Room in Wentzville.
Microneedling Benefits
First introduced as a skin rejuvenation technique, our skincare specialists use microneedling to treat a wide range of skin concerns, such as:
Acne and acne scars
Burn scars
Fine lines and wrinkles
Hair loss
Hyperpigmentation
Stretch marks
This therapeutic technique is minimally invasive and an effective and safe way to encourage cell turnover for rejuvenated skin. Many of our clients achieve brighter, firmer skin, something they haven’t had since their teenage years. Convenience is another benefit of microneedling—most sessions last less than an hour, with most completed within 30 minutes.
Microneedling is a wonderful option for individuals with darker skin tones. Unlike laser therapy, another technique to correct hyperpigmentation or lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, our darker-skin-tone clients don’t have to worry about discoloration.
Do you have patches of skin on your face or other parts of your body that appear darker than the rest of your skin? This is called hyperpigmentation and is caused by various factors, including:
Acne
Certain medications
Health conditions
Hormonal changes
Pregnancy
Sun exposure
The number of microneedling for hyperpigmentation to see results varies. Some individuals may only need two sessions to notice a difference. Others may need upwards of six.
Can you use microneedling for hair loss?
Yes! Studies have shown microneedling to be an effective treatment for alopecia and male pattern baldness. As with any cosmetic procedure, we encourage you to manage expectations because everyone responds differently to treatments. Many people with hair loss find microneedling works well when combined with other treatments, such as Rogaine or a topical steroid, by aiding the scalp's absorption of the products.
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also referred to as collagen induction therapy, uses miniature, sterilized needles that puncture the skin. The purpose of the micro-punctures is to stimulate collagen production. At The Color Room, we use the SkinPen® for medical-grade microneedling.
If you’ve never known someone who’s had microneedling, you’re probably thinking—OUCH!
While some discomfort may occur, depending on your skin’s tolerance to stimuli, we can assure you it’s nowhere near as uncomfortable as it sounds. Some of our clients have compared it to an electric toothbrush moving over the skin’s surface.
Microneedling for Wrinkles: Does It Really Work?
Do you want fewer wrinkles without Botox or fillers? Microneedling doesn’t erase wrinkles or fine lines, but after only one or two sessions, you’ll notice significantly smoother and firmer skin, two things that improve the appearance of facial wrinkles.
The best thing about microneedling for wrinkles? It’s completely natural and doesn’t use any chemicals or toxins.
Can I get microneedling if I get injectables?
Yes, with proper planning. To ensure you don’t cause complications, you must wait at least 14 days after your injectables’ appointment before having microneedling done. When you come for a consultation, your skincare specialist will ask you what skin services you have done and help you plan accordingly for the safest results.
The Full-body Benefits of Microneedling
Microneedling offers amazing full-body benefits to improve the appearance of scars, skin discoloration, and stretch marks.
When skin stretches rapidly, striae appear (aka stretch marks). Some people only associate stretch marks with pregnancy. However, stretch marks occur from Cushing syndrome, pubertal growth spurts, rapid weight gain, and even bodybuilding, and can occur on male and female bodies. We use microneedling for stretch marks on clients’ abdomens, breasts, legs, and arms—and anywhere else people have bothersome (to them) stretch marks.
Microneedling for acne scars is another popular service with our clients. It’s ideal for discoloration and can lessen the appearance of pockmarks. Treating pockmarked skin usually requires several sessions because of the damage done to the skin’s deep layers.
Jaw-dropping Before and After Photos
Microneedling works wonders on all skin types and delivers fantastic results without toxins or surgery. But don’t take our word for it. Check out these before and after photos of our satisfied clients.
Microneedling Aftercare: What to Expect
For best results, you must take care of your skin after microneedling sessions to avoid infection and help your skin heal.
After your microneedling session, your skin will appear red, similar to what it might look like if you were sunburned. The redness should lessen within 48 hours. Swelling and flaking are also common after the procedure. For this reason, we recommend not having microneedling done before a big event. Your skin needs time to heal.
Here is some other healing advice:
Go make-up free for at least 24 hours after the procedure
Wear sunscreen
Avoid direct exposure to sunlight for two weeks
Skip intense, sweaty workout sessions for 72 hours
Avoid swimming pools and saunas for 72 hours
Use any aftercare products your skincare specialist gives you, according to their directions. You also want to avoid retinol, Vitamin C, and exfoliants as your skin heals. If in doubt, ask your skincare specialist. They’ll let you know what’s safe to use after a microneedling session.
How Much Does Microneedling Cost?
Microneedling in Wentzville at The Color Room starts at $350 per session. While results vary, we recommend three sessions a year.
Most clients choose our Microneedling Series package, which includes three microneedling sessions and at-home care for $990. That’s a 10% discount, and the sessions can be booked at your convenience.
