Supporting Women and Children in Need— How the Color Room is Donating 5% of August Retail Sales to The Child Advocacy Center

We love supporting local organizations, especially those whose missions align with The Color Room’s mission to empower women and children in need. That’s why we’re a proud sponsor of The Child Advocacy Center in Wentzville, MO.

And this post is all about bringing awareness to the work the staff and volunteers at the center do to protect and heal children, their families, and prevent child sexual abuse.

Fact: Did you know 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused before turning 18?

That’s a tough statistic to absorb, but The Child Advocacy Center is working for change.

The organization’s primary goal is to reduce trauma to child abuse survivors by offering the following intervention services to the community:

  • Forensic interviews

  • Safe exams

  • Children and family advocacy

  • Mental health therapy

  • School and community-based prevention education programs

In 2022, the center provided sexual abuse prevention services to 50,870 children, and as s you can imagine, this amazing organization can’t provide these services without community support.

Although The Child Advocacy Center is generously funded in part by organizations such as The United Way, Children’s Trust Fund, Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) administered by the U.S. Dept. of Justice and the MO Dept. of Social Services, the YouthBridge Community Foundation, and Department of Social Justice, there are still financial gaps.

We recognize the challenges that non-profit organizations face to raise funds to fill those gaps, which is why we’re donating 5% of all August retail sales to The Child Advocacy Center to give the children and families of our community hope and healing.

How YOU Can Help

During August, every retail purchase you make from The Color Room benefits The Child Advocacy Center. Stock up on your favorite hair care, skin care, or makeup products, and know that your hard-earned dollars are helping children and families affected by sexual trauma in the local community.

Purchasing retail products at The Color Room is a start, but there are other ways to get involved and help transform lives. Here are some ways YOU can support this organization that’s near and dear to our hearts.

Donate

Every service The Child Advocacy Center provides to children and families is free, but the cost to walk a child away from abuse and toward healing is nearly $10,000.

Your monetary donation, no matter the amount, helps the center provide therapy for children and a safe and confidential environment for a forensic interview. Donations also help the center support families with transportation to therapy appointments and fund school and community abuse prevention programs.

Every little bit helps!

Volunteer

Money matters, but so does direct service. The Child Advocacy Center has meaningful volunteer opportunities for individuals interested in volunteering their time and talents.

Confidentiality is an essential part of the center's work, so direct volunteer opportunities with children and families aren't available, but here are some other volunteer opportunities that might be a great fit:

  • Social media ambassadors

  • Admin volunteers

  • Event volunteers

  • Upkeep volunteers

  • Volunteer workdays

Also, keep in mind that some volunteer positions require a background check. For more information about volunteering at The Child Advocacy Center, click here to fill out the online application.

How to Spread Awareness About The Child Advocacy Center

Child sexual abuse is hard to talk about, but we need to talk about it. The more we bring attention to the issue, the more children we protect.

Sharing information with your friends, family, social and professional networks is the best place to start.

For example, many people don’t realize that 90% of child sexual abuse happens by someone the child is familiar with, someone they like, love or live with. When there’s this dynamic in an abuse situation, it’s confusing for the child, and they are too young to make sense of what’s happening.

It takes a community to protect our children!

Here are some ways you can spread awareness:

  • Participate in prevention programs

  • Learn about the signs of abuse and share your knowledge with your social connections

  • Encourage others to learn how to identify the signs of abuse

  • Speak up when you believe there’s a problem

  • Share The Child Advocacy Center’s social media posts
